State of Transparency
Looiersgracht 60, in collaboration with Gerrit Rietveld Academie, is delighted to invite you to ‘State of Transparency’, a unique exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the academy’s Large Glass department and its unparalleled conceptual approach to glass as a sculptural material. This event, showcasing the works of seventeen emerging and established artists between May 25thand June 9th 2019 will question the key attributes of glass without necessarily using it.
Transparency is inseparable from glass. Such a material and its property are omnipresent in the world of today where they are used to provide insights into society’s economic, political and social processes as well as access to the most private areas of our lives. ‘State of Transparency’aims to examine the literal and metaphorical qualities of the term whilst reflecting on using glass as a material within an artistic practice. It hopes to open zones of contemplation where glass refracts, mirrors, reflects and offers its viewers an alternative understanding of transparency in our era.
‘State of Transparency’ will include the works of Maria Barnas, Gwenneth Boelens, Ruta Butkute, Forensic Architecture, Mio Fujimaki, Jason Hendrik Hansma, Saskia Noor van Imhoff, David Jablonowski, Katrin Korfmann, Navid Nuur, Fahrettin Örenli, Jens Pfeifer, Laura Puska, Thomas Rentmeister, Judith Roux, Mirre Yayla Seur and Beny Wagner.
